I was chief of the Soviet Foreign Policy Branch early in my 27-year career as a CIA analyst; spent three years in the late 80s as Verbindungsmann in Pullach; and for four years toward the end of my career, I briefed the most senior White House, State Department, Defense Department, and military officials every other day with the President’s Daily Brief, which I helped prepare the evening before.
I am very concerned about the negative trend in relations between the West and Russia, and am convinced that Germany can play a key role in helping prevent disaster.
